Honorary chairman of Marbles Reunited Eddie O’Hara passes away at the age of 78

It is with great sadness that we have been informed of the passing away of our beloved Honorary Chairman and Chairman of the British Committee for the Reunification of the Parthenon Marbles, Eddie O’Hara. Mr O’Hara has passed away at the age of 78 as a result of a chronic respiratory condition.

Eddie O’Hara, a former Merseyside MP, represented Knowsley South between 1990 and 2010 when he retired. However, he was also a celebrated philhellene devoted to the campaign for reunification of the Parthenon Sculptures. His love of Greek culture and history along with his campaigning efforts for reunification of the Parthenon sculptures helped him form strong and long-lasting friendships with fellow politicians in the Greek government as well as other notable members of the Greek and international cultural realm.

In spite of his declining health he remained active with his reunification efforts by helping organise colloquies and attending conferences and other events aimed at raising awareness about the Parthenon Sculptures issue.  A passionate and inspiring figure for all who came in contact with him, he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with his family during this time.

  1. I watched the movie Promakhos on Netflix last night and it renewed my indignation and embarrassment that the marbles have not yet been returned to Greece.

It also reminded me that back in 2014 I did some work based on the insights of Eli Goldratt to frame better arguments that would help to persuade more people and make the position of the trustees untenable.

So, if you let me have an email address, I will send you that work.
